The designers' inspiration for Charm Continue stems from their desire to emphasize the beauty that comes with the passage of time. They believe in respecting the traces left by the years and allowing buildings to become memorials of history, creating a timeless appeal.
One of the unique properties of this design lies in the challenges posed by the building's 30-year-old structure. The renovation required strengthening the three-dimensional structural integrity of the building, ensuring its longevity and stability.
The realization of the Charm Continue design involved various techniques and technologies, including refurbishment, bathroom fitting, mechanical services, flooring and woodwork, wall and plastering, and waterproofing. These methods were employed to transform the old house into a modern space that still retained its original charm.
With a total area of 347m², Charm Continue showcases a modern and simple style, with a strong emphasis on wooden elements. The designers aimed to create a space that seamlessly integrated aesthetics and functionality, ensuring that the design not only looked beautiful but also served its purpose effectively.
The renovation project began in September 2016 and was completed in May 2018 in Taoyuan, Republic of China (Taiwan). Throughout the process, the design team faced numerous challenges, including preserving the old town's cultural heritage and ensuring that the building's historical significance was maintained.
Charm Continue has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
The Charm Continue renovation project is a testament to the designers' ability to revitalize old spaces while preserving their historical essence. By combining modern aesthetics with traditional elements, Tseng Hung-Lin and Liu Yi Chang have created a design that is both visually stunning and deeply meaningful.
